JOLLY JUNE-BUG

June’s OFA Health Clearances and Gentics can be found here.

Because June was my OG (Original Golden) I was not able to get ancestor information regarding the ancestors health lineage. She came from a line of field retrievers that were bred for sport/work. Because she did not come from show lines, this increases genetic diversity and lowers the risks of COI and cancer. This does not mean that there is a cancer-free guarantee but I feel this to be an asset to the foundation of my breeding program and feel that is appropriate to be upfront and clear about her lineage. As you can see from her CHIC certificate, she has met all of the genetic health testing and clearance criteria set forth by the GRCA and OFA. “Holly” is considered a “Light Golden” according to AKC. Some people have incorrectly named this coloring as an “English Cream Golden Retriever” or “ECGR.” The word on the street is that we should refrain from using the term “English Cream” to avoid confusion and misinformation. There is only one kind of Golden Retriever in various shades of gold which range to a red coloring (Dark Golden) to the palest of gold (Light Golden) which looks to be almost white when they are puppies. As they grow up the soft gold dusting shows up on the ears and back especially when wet.

This is my Holly. She was so excited that I was finally home and wanted to greet me. She looked so beautiful and regal so I snapped this.

Holly is very intuitive and extremely chill unless we are talking about a passionate game of fetch (retrieve which is what they were bred to do.) We call her the “ball beast” around here because she hunkers down and ready when we are about to launch a ball and she is usually the first one to the ball no matter where it lands in the yard. The other dogs in the pack are not amused and get easily frustrated so we have to balance things out so everyone gets a fair shot at retrieving. AKC Fetch tests are available several times a year all over the United States and are a great way to get a driven retriever involved in fun events to earn ribbons, titles and some very cool bragging rights! AKC Fetch is one of many types of events that you can get your best friend involved in. Working towards these events is an invaluable way to bond with your dog as well as a great avenue to teach great lessons and responsibilities for children. Learn more about AKC Event types here.
