A note regarding Cancer

A New Paradigm For Canine Cancer
While breeders can’t select directly against somatic cancer-causing mutations, they might be able to select against the genetic backgrounds that increase the susceptibility of genes like TP53 to mutation (Rodrigues et al 2023). But without identifying what these are, a more useful strategy might be to restore genetic diversity that has been lost over generations while cancer incidence has increased. Importantly, restoring diversity might address the risk of many types of cancer in multiple breeds, and make a very real difference in the incidence of cancer in dogs.”

Here at Graceful Goldens, we believe that in order to preserve the health and genetic diversity of the breed, it is imperative that we include Golden Retrievers that are not bred specifically for the show ring. Having June-Bug and Holly in our breeding program is our gift of genetic diversity to the overall health and wellness of the Golden Retriever gene pool. It is our belief that their genetics benefit the genetic pool and that their offspring will live longer and have healthier lives than dogs who have been inbred or line bred for performance/show qualities. Our girls Ethel, Elka, Rain and Ginny and our boys Jack, Banksy, Marcel and Shock to establish a solid foundation for the breeding program and we will continue to seek out potential candidates with clear genetics, passing health certifications, solid and stable temperaments as well as sound structure and balance though confirmation evaluation. We may offer appropriate individuals a co-ownership opportunity to broaden our vision and mission to produce top quality Golden Retrievers and make a name for ourselves within the Golden Retriever community in North America.
